Startup Documentary - Day 179 - West Edmonton Mall

Dear Entrepreneur.... today I'm totally burnt out from 3 weeks of late nights and early mornings... entirely in my house, day-in and day-out.

It's time to go out.

Headed out to West Edmonton Mall in my home city of Edmonton, Canada. Was nice to participate in normal civilization for a few hours.

West Edmonton Mall is the largest shopping mall in North America with over 800 stores, covering 5,300,000 square feet. It features a massive triple-loop rollercoaster, indoor wave pool, 3 submarines, and a replica of Christopher Columbus' ship, the Santa Maria.

For my American friends, yes West Edmonton Mall is far bigger than either Mall of America or the King of Prussia Mall. In fact, it was the same Canadian family, the Ghermezians, who built both WEM and MOA. After building WEM, they tried to beat their "largest mall" record with MOA, but ran out of cash. They settled with a smaller Mall of America, leaving the title to their hometown West Edmonton Mall.
